Big Brother: Viewers Complain Over Caroline’s ‘Gorilla’ Slur

On last Thurday’s episode of Big Brother, viewers saw housemate Caroline Wharram dub her fellow housemate Adam Kelly a “ridiculous gorilla”, which has since prompted more than 50 complaints to telly watchdog Ofcom.

The pair had been participating in a task where Adam had to spin Caroline on a roundabout while she ate sweets at the same time - attempting to gain points for the house to contribute towards their weekly shopping budget.

Having asked him to "slow down", Caroline said of Adam: “He's just a ridiculous gorilla - bowl haircut, no sanitation… He's just disgusting."

After being given a formal warning by Big Brother in the diary room, Caroline was then seen apologising to Adam, "It's not a personal attack... Obviously you are not a bully, I am."

Over the past few days several ex-housemates of the hit reality show have come forward via Twitter to vent their frustrations over the incident.

Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace of Big Brother 7 said: “OMG!!!! CAROLINE CALLEDD ADAM A GORILLA!!!?????????? WTF HERO TO ZERO #BBUK… CAROLINE WOULD NOT HAVE USED THE WORD 'GORILLA' TO HAVE DESCRIBED ANY OTHER HOUSEMATE, THEREFOR IT WAS A RACIST DESCRIPTIVE END OF.”

Radio host and Big Brother 9 star Luke Marsden voiced his opinion on the matter: “For an educated, traveled girl like Caroline to not see how 'Gorilla' could be perceived as racist towards Adam, shows utter stupidity #bbuk.”

Big Brother host Brian Dowling’s good friend and Big Brother 2 housemate Narinder Kaur has had her say on Twitter also: “You did mean it Caroline. You did. #BBUK #gorilla yes you didn't think the whole of Britain would hear it.”

A rep for Big Brother has been apporached for comment.

Do you take offence at Caroline's comment?
