Cate Blanchett's Oscar Look Was Worth A Whopping $18 Million But It's Still Not The Most Expensive Ever

Cate Blanchett pulled out all the stops for her big night at the Oscars earlier this month, with her look working out to be by far the most expensive of the night.

The Aussie actress won her second Oscar for her lead role in Blue Jasmine at the 2014 Academy Awards, but even if she hadn't had won, Cate was still top when it came to splashing the cash.

According to Vogue, the actress' beautiful nude and gold Armani dress cost around $100,000 but it was her jewellery - all of which was on loan - which pushed the value of the outfit up into the millions.

Lucky Cate was dripping in bling with Chopard earrings, a brown diamond bracelet and a pear-shaped diamond ring which were all worth mega bucks.

Charlize Theron was also rocking an expensive look at the Oscars, coming in second with her outfit worth $16 million, mostly made up of a $15 million Harry Winston necklace and a pair of $800,000 earrings from the jeweller. Her custom-made Dior dress would have cost around $90,000.

Amy Adams meanwhile turned up at the 2014 Golden Globes in $8 million work of jewels, choosing $8 million of bling from the Kardashian family's favourite jeweller Lorraine Schwartz, including a 30-carat Asscher-cut diamond pendant, a 12-carat rose cut diamond ring and 10-carat diamond earrings mounted in yellow gold.

While Cate, Charlize and Amy's frocks and bling might be worth a staggering amount the record for most expensive red carpet look ever goes to Gloria Stuart. The actress hit the 1998 Oscars red carpet rocking a huge Harry Winston 15-carat blue diamond necklace.

Honouring the ‘Heart of the Ocean’ necklace from her movie Titanic, the Best Supporting Actress nominee was allowed to wear a replica of the blue diamond piece, worth, wait for it, $20 million.

Celine Dion, who performed the movie's smash hit song My Heart Will Go On, was relegated to wearing a less expensive version, a 171 carat sapphire worth $2.2 million.
