David Bowie's son Duncan Jones has recreated his father's iconic introduction to The Snowman, complete with that famous scarf.

In 1984, Bowie, who was a big fan of Snowman author Raymond Briggs, recorded an introduction for the classic animated film with the music icon finding a scarf in his loft similar to the one that features in the story.

Jones has now paid homage to his father with a short video of his own.

Posted to Twitter, Jones, who is a film director, can be seen entering a festive looking room carrying a box.

Jones then says: “When I was a little lad, my dad used to tell me a story about when he was little, he had a friend who was a snowman. He was such a good friend that one day he gave him a gift."

The director of Source Code then pulls the scarf from the 1984 introduction out of the box before saying: “I always thought that that story was made up but then one day when I got a bit older my dad gave me that gift and it was a beautiful blue scarf.

"And now I wonder if maybe the story was true? Merry Christmas everyone.”

The scarf was thought lost until Jones discovered it in 2020 while going through storage of his father's things.

At the time, he tweeted: “Went looking for sock monkeys in the storage boxes and FOUND THE SCARF!!! YAY!”

It was also revealed that Bowie's only payment for the introduction was the scarf which was knitted by a lady who worked in the accounts department of the production company.

Brian Harding, who produced the intro, tweeted: “Hi Duncan! I am Brian Harding, who produced the filming of your father’s introduction to The Snowman. You may not remember the history. The Scarf was knitted by the lady in the accounts department of TVC, the production company who made the animation."

He added: "She came onto the set and presented it to David. When filming was over, David asked very politely if he could keep the scarf to give to his son, Zowie (Duncan Jones).”
