Demi Lovato Was 'Ready To Do Something New' When She Joined X Factor

Joining the X Factor USA panel alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry was a ‘no-brainer’ for the youngest of the judges, Demi Lovato. The teen star revealed that the proposition to be a judge came at the perfect time in her life and she had no hesitation when it came to accepting the offer from boss Simon Cowell.

Sitting beside the iconic Britney Spears, inspiring LA Reid, and the terrifying Simon Cowell may be daunting for some, but not for singer Demi Lovato. In fact, she admits that she couldn’t feel more at home.

Speaking to Teen Vogue, Demi said: “Right before I got the offer, I’d been sitting in a meeting feeling really discouraged [about my career], wishing I was further along.

“And I decided that I needed to stop thinking about what I wished I had and start thinking about what I was going to have. I was ready to do something new, and I wanted to put that out there, in the universe… and then [Simon Cowell] called, literally, a week and a half later.”

Talking of her decision, the 20-year-old revealed: “It was a no-brainer!”

The American star seems to fit in perfectly beside her judging partners and described her only female companion Britney as “really sweet and funny and quirky”. She also seems to have found a new BFF in Simon Cowell as the pair continually joke and make fun of each other in front of the cameras.

Demi does, however, believe the competition is more than just fun and games. She admitted that she wants to not only help the contestants with their singing, but also with their newfound fame.

“There’s so much more to it than just being a talented singer,” insisted the songwriter. “I’m going to help them mentally prepare for everything that’s coming – like, all these things that have happened to me recently, I really attribute them, in part, to the work that I’ve been doing on myself.

“The second that I became more centred and aware of who I am, my performances got better, and I was better able to relate to people. For a long time, I was pretending to be someone that I wasn’t, and I was miserable. When I came out and said, ‘I’m human, I’ve got problems, but I’m willing to share them’, that’s when I started to really connect.”
