One Direction Land In The US Ahead Of MTV VMA Performance

One Direction have jetted off to the US  ahead of their performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

The lads will perform at the awards for the first time on September 6 along with the likes of Taylor Swift and Alicia Keys.

Taking to Twitter earlier this week, Harry Styles was suffering from jet lag following their journey across the pond.

He said: ''So Jet slag has officially hit.. Been up for aaages.''

One Direction have picked up nominations in the Best New Artist category and Best Pop Video but they will have to fight off Justin Bieber for that one!

Doing some last minute begging, Styles tweeted: ''You guys are amazing voting for the VMAs! Please keep voting for us to win 'Best Pop Video' and 'Best Newcomer' it'd be SIIICK to win .xx''

Ahead of their performance on Thursday (September 6), One Direction admitted they're a little nervous.

"We're really looking forward to the VMAs," Liam told MTV.

"It's quite nerve-racking as well, because obviously there's been so many historical moments and stuff that have happened at the VMAs. Now we want to make a moment ourselves, but who knows?"

He added: "I think performing at the VMAs is such a huge occasion. I think it ranks up there with one of the best performances we'll do so far."

The likes of Rihanna and Drake are set to attend as both are nominated for a total of five awards including their collaborative single 'Take Care'.

Last year's big winner Katy Perry has picked up four nominations, while Beyonce, Coldplay and Jay-Z and Kanye West's 'Watch The Throne' all have three.

The Video of the Year category also sees nominations for 'Wide Awake' by Katy Perry, Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' and 'Bad Girls' by M.I.A.
