Doctor Who bosses are said to be lining up Matt Smith's exit for Christmas, when the actor's character is set to regenerate into the 12th Time Lord, new reports suggest.
According to The Sun, insiders say the festive special will be Matt's last outing as The Doctor, after four years playing the infamous role.
The actor has been fairly open about revealing his ambitions to crack Hollywood and has already filmed upcoming movie How To Catch A Monster alongside Ryan Gosling, set to be released next year.
Sources have said that bosses may already have an idea of who Matt's replacement is going to be, with work on the special set to get under way later in the year.

Meanwhile, there have also been rumours recently to suggest that Matt may be leaving Doctor Who to star as a James Bond villain.
The British actor was talking a the preview screening ahead of the return of the seventh series, and Matt revealed that he thinks he could be a 007 villain instead.
In a chat with The Sun, Matt Smith said: "I'm not handsome enough to be James Bond. Maybe a villain though. Start campaigning now. I don't think I could be James Bond though."
Matt admitted that he was a fan of the most recent Bond film Skyfall, and was a big Javier Bardem fan.
"I'd edge on the camp dangerous side I think," he said, adding: "Javier Bardem was amazing. I thought Skyfall was a sumptuous film."
Of the upcoming series of Doctor Who, in which he stars with Jenna-Louise Coleman, Matt said that it has a touch of Bond.
"It's a modern-day conspiracy thriller, it's like Doctor Who meets Bourne, meets Bond, meets action adventure and I'm really pleased with it," he said.
