Doctor Who fans are getting ready to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary on November 23 and eager lovers of the popular sci-fi show have even started a petition to light up the Empire State Building 'TARDIS blue' on the show's big day.
The petition has gotten over 12,000 signatures on it so far, in under a week, following its launch on September 23.
Organisers explained: "This is the first time a sci-fi show has lasted 50 years. It's a landmark occasion," adding: "The Doctor has visted NYC many times over the years, most recently earlier this season. Now NYSciFi & Fantasy (www.NYSciFi.com) wants to bring NYC to The Doctor to celebrate!"
"We are attempting to partner with the Empire State Building (www.esbnyc.com) to make this happen (all official paperwork was submitted to the Empire State Building on 9/23/13)."

Meanwhile, fans can keep up to date with everything Doctor Who related via the official blog, ahead of the eagerly anticipated upcoming anniversary episode.
The Doctor Who team recently revealed that there will be “several surprises” before the brand new episode, including a full length trailer that will be different from the trailer shown at Comic-Con and the teaser aired at Edinburgh International Film Festival in last month.
The team explained: "It's never been seen before and is currently in post-production. Bold, brilliant and unexpected, it promises to be an ideal way to look forward to the big day."
