Following from the multiple tragedies seen in series three of hit period drama Downton Abbey, Joanne Froggatt has vowed that the audience will be "surprised" when the new series returns later this year.
As the Grantham family and viewers bid a teary farewell to Lady Sybil in the last series, the new series will feature the funeral of Matthew Crawley after he died in a car crash during the Christmas special episode.
Speaking about the new series which is currently being filmed, Joanne who plays maid Anna Bates, told BANG Showbiz:
"We've just started filming the fourth season. We've been filming for about a month so we've got a long way to go.
"I'm really excited about it. I think this year, the scripts are really, really fantastic. I think it's upped its game again. There's certainly quite a few surprises this year. Hopefully people will love it!"

With Dan Stevens out of the show, it was recently revealed that Siobhan Finneran will also not be returning to the show or to her role as Sarah O'Brien.Confirming her exit from the show,
Siobhan told the Radio Times: "I’m not doing any more. O’Brien is a thoroughly despicable human being - that was great to play.”
Speaking about how much she has enjoyed playing Sarah, the actress - according to The Mirror - said recently: "I actually have great fun being sniffy to everyone. I love O’Brien the most when she’s spiteful and has a brilliant put-down. She’s a clever lady and a bad enemy to make."
Joking about the character's love life, she added: "O’Brien with a boyfriend would be stupendous! Who would be brave enough to take her on a date? Kevin Doyle, who plays Joseph Molesley, and I are always speculating what our characters would be like on a date – it would be hilarious.”
