Guardians Of The Galaxy Director James Gunn Weighs In On Edgar Wright's 'Break-Up' With Ant-Man

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has had his say on Edgar Wright's exit from Marvel's Ant-Man movie, insisting the "break-up" is no-one's fault.

It was announced last week that British director Wright has bowed out of Marvel's upcoming Ant-Man movie, due to creative differences with studio execs.

Wright has spent years working on the project, writing the screenplay while also serving as a co-producer, but he will no longer bring the movie to the big screen.

“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film", a joint statement from the director and studio announced.

"The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

Now, James Gunn has spoken out on the move which has led some fans to hit out at Marvel. The man behind Marvel's summer release has insisted the working relationship wasn't mean to be: "Sometimes you have friends in a relationship. You love each of them dearly as individuals and think they're amazing people", Gunn wrote in a message on Facebook.

"When they talk to you about their troubles, you do everything you can to support them, to keep them together, because if you love them both so much doesn't it make sense they should love each other? But little by little you realize, at heart, they aren't meant to be together - not because there's anything wrong with either of them, but they just don't have personalities that mesh in a comfortable way".

"They don't make each other happy. Although it's sad to see them split, when they do, you're surprisingly relieved, and excited to see where their lives take them next. It's easy to try to make one party 'right' and another party 'wrong' when a break-up happens, but it often isn't that simple. Or perhaps it's even more simple than that - not everyone belongs in a relationship together. It doesn't mean they're not wonderful people.

"And that's true of both Edgar Wright and Marvel. One of them isn't a person, but I think you get what I mea", Gunn finished.

Joss Whedon tweets his support (Twitter)

Avengers director Joss Whedon has also shared his support for Wright, posting a picture of himself on Twitter over the weekend holding a Cornetto, with the ice-cream most likely a reference to Wright’s ‘Three Flavours Cornetto’ trilogy of films – Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
