Mark Wahlberg has said that he would love to step into Tony Stark's shoes in Iron Man 4, but admitted that he's never been asked before because he usually plays "real people."

Avengers: Age Of Ultron is due to hit movie screens in 2015 and the actor recently admitted that he'd love to have a part to play in the flick.

“I would like to take over the Iron Man franchise for Robert Downey, [but] it’s one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I’ve never been asked,” a source tells Yahoo!

He then added: “Once I was kind of being talked about for the Robin role in Batman [Forever]… somebody dodged a bullet!”

Downey Jr is confirmed to reprise the role of Iron Man for Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Avengers 3, but so far this year’s Iron Man 3 looks like it could be the star’s final solo outing.

Meanwhile, Wahlberg recently spoke out about his previous "drunken" interview on Graham Norton, claiming that people took it too seriously.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Wahlberg claimed that his erratic behaviour, which also saw him constantly interrupt Silverman during her interview, had been planned.

"I tried to do a bit, and some people took it a little too seriously," he explained.

Host Graham meanwhile defended his guest recently, insisting that Mark is a "really lovely guy", who simply overindulged.

"I think the three of us had met a lot of drunk people over the years," Norton said.

"Mark Wahlberg's been on the show before and he's a really lovely guy."

"We've all done that thing where you suddenly realise, 'I'm by far the drunkest person at this dinner party' and you don't know how that happened. It was a bit like that, so I don't judge him harshly at all. It was just a thing," he added.
