Jennifer Hudson has never had alcohol

Jennifer Hudson found it difficult to prepare for her latest film role playing a drug addict, as she has never even had alcohol.

Hudson is stepping up her film career with her latest role, playing a heroin addict in the film The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, but has admitted she found it hard to get into character as she could not relate to her issues.

Jen explained on Chelsea Lately that she did not know how being hooked on drugs would feel as she has never even had alcohol.

The Oscar-winning actress said, "I've never done anything, so that was hard to play this role. I've never had a drink in my life. I'm sober."

She added, "I'm like, 'OK, this is new to me.' Normally as an actor, you have things to pull from. I was like, 'I don't know what it's like to feel any of that.'"

Presenter Chelsea Handler was visibly surprised at Jennifer's admission and asked what she was waiting for.

Jennifer, who visited rehab centres to learn about what it was like to recover from addiction, replied, "I don't know, I've never been interested (in alcohol). Nobody ever believes it. When I got this role, I was like, 'Oh my god, what am I gonna do? What am I gonna pull from to play the role?'"
