Jeremy Clarkson is never one to shy away from saying what he really thinks, and its obvious that he’s not particularly happy with friend and fellow TV star Simon Cowell, who he solely blames for the fact that there will be no more episodes of Top Gear this year.
The car fanatic accuses Cowell’s X Factor of clogging up the TV with "fat people singing" which means that BBC2 bosses don’t want to put their highest-rated show against it, as they think the show will suffer in the ratings and potentially lose viewers.
Jeremy Clarkson took to Twitter to complain about the lack of Top Gear episodes this year, declaring that he and his pals Richard Hammond and James May will have to twiddle their thumbs until this season of The X Factor is over.
He said: "There's a rumour in internet land that there will be no more Top Gears this year. I'm afraid that apart from an Xmas special, it's true.
"Would love to be back in the Autumn, but Sunday nights then will be full of fat people singing. The good news is that the longer we have to make the films, the better they will be. We will be back in January.”
Clarkson added: "Top Gear is a medium sized van. Cowell is a juggernaut. When he has finished his singing competition, our new series will start."
BBC and ITV are constantly locked in scheduling battles, with the latest being the bitter rivalry with ITV's Britain's Got Talent (another Cowell “juggernaut“) versus BBC's The Voice, which both launched on the same Saturday night with a 20 minute crossover.
Are you sad that there will be no more episodes of Top Gear this year?
