TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has sparked a storm of controversy after branding his fellow countrymen "b**tards".
Clarkson, who helms hit motoring show Top Gear, lashed out after he was stunned by the reaction to news of his beloved dog's death.
He had posted a note on Twitter.com telling fans his pet pooch had passed away but instead of sympathy, he was hit with a deluge of insults and mocking comments - and Clarkson is convinced the remarks show the true nature of his fellow Brits.
In an article for Top Gear magazine, he revealed he'd been subjected to "a non-stop tirade of abuse", adding, "(It) confirms my theory. Britain is a nation of 62 million complete and utter b**tards... We are the country that invented the concentration camp and international slavery. Hanging, drawing, quartering: that was us too.
"I bet if you checked you'd find that, along with everything else, bullying was invented here too."
