Ever since Jennifer Lawrence mocked Jessica Chastain during a recent Saturday Night Live appearance, there has been rumours of a rift.

However, Chastain has taken it upon herself to squash those reports and claims there is no feud between the pair - despite them both being up for Best Actress at this year's Oscars.

"I find it very sad that the media makes up bogus stories about women fighting in this industry," Chastain wrote on her Facebook page on Sunday night.

The original rumours were fueled after 'Silver Linings Playbook' star Lawrence took part in a sketch on Saturday Night Live and poked fun at their Oscar nominations, saying: "Jessica Chastain? More like Jessica Chast-ain't winning an Oscar on my watch."

This joke led to the media believing that there was genuine rivalry between the two, but it seems that Chastain has had enough and wanted to set the record straight.

"I think all of the actresses recognised this year have given incredible performances," she wrote.

"But more important, they've all shown themselves to be filled with generosity and kindness. I've done two photoshoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent. I've told her how beautiful her film work is."

"Please don't allow the media to perpetuate the myth that women aren't supportive of each other. Every time an actress is celebrated for her great work, I cheer," she continued.

"For the more brilliant their performance, the more the audience demands stories about women. With support and encouragement, we help to inspire this industry to create opportunities for women. And as we all know: a great year for women in film, is just a great year for film."

The Oscars will take place on Sunday February 24, where Chastain and Lawrence will no doubt rub shoulders on the red carpet.
