New mom Jessica Simpson is aware of the reason why she gained the pounds she did while pregnant with her first baby Maxwell Drew.
"I let myself indulge in everything I wanted because it was the first time I was ever pregnant, and I wanted to enjoy it," the 32-year-old Simpson tells USA Today.
The Fashion Star judge’s pregnancy diet consisted one of her favorite – macaroni and cheese. But Simpson didn’t quite have a grasp of how her self-indulgence would have a negative impact on her post-baby body.
"I didn't realize [the weight] didn't all come off with the baby," says the 5ft 3" fashion mogul said.
Since giving birth to daughter Maxwell Drew in May, Simpson has given up her comfort foods while submitting herself to the Weight Watchers program as their newest spokeswoman. (Her ads will begin to appear next week.)
Simpson has not revealed her weight, or what she weighed at her heaviest in her pregnancy, but says she seen a weekly change on the scale while on the diet program.
Maxwell’s mommy also works out with her personal trainer Harley Pasternak four or five times a week, mostly consisting of walking for now, because Simpson says “my boobs are way too big to run at this point.”
Even though Simpson is a high profile celebrity who’s expected to bounce back in immediate momshell shape following her baby’s birth, she has a more realistic expectation in mind.
"My body is not bouncing back like a supermodel," says the reality star. "I'm just your everyday woman who is trying to feel good and be healthy for her daughter, her fiancé and herself."
Simpson, who’s engaged to be married to former NFL quarterback Eric Johnson, will be making her official post-baby bod debut on Katie Couric’s new daytime talk show, Katie, on Sept .10.
