Kaiser Chiefs band member Nick 'Peanut' Baines has said that he's glad that none of the band took up the offer to become the next judge on UK talent TV show The Voice, saying that he thinks that nowadays there are two very separate industries - 'entertainment and music', so having one of the band on there just 'wouldn't work.'
Following the rumours that fellow band member Nick got offered a whopping £1million to take to the judging panel next series, Entertainmentwise caught up with Nick's fellow band member 'Peanut', who told us: “I’m not quite sure if that would work because if we were to accept then we’d just take the p**s."
"We’d tell it how it is rather than what people want to hear and they’d have to put up with it. We’d just say how we feel rather than what we think that the acts would want to hear. It comes down to the whole ‘gimmick’ thing, we’d want to judge people musically.”
Surely it's about time someone was judging the acts on their musical ability and not their gimmicks?
Nick added: “In terms of talent shows I think they’re two totally different industries - the entertainment and the industry that we’re a part of. At the end of the day people still want to see rock n’ roll shows and not many people that emerge from talent shows can get up on stage and play 4 albums.”
The keyboard player then said that the music world is now made up of 'two very separate industries'...
“We’ve done it the ‘proper way’ and gone from playing your local pub with a small audience…they’re just two very separate industries - the entertainment industry and the music industry.”
The star definitely has a point - we couldn't imagine the Kaiser Chiefs giving the likes of One Direction any rock n' roll tips!
What are your thoughts on the state of the music industry nowadays? Do you agree with Peanut?
