Kanye West Hit With $150,000 Lawsuit Over 'Gold Digger' Infringement Claims

It seems there is barely a day goes by without Kanye West landing himself in some sort of trouble. The latest case against the rapper claims that lyrics in worldwide hit 'Gold Digger' were in fact taken from obscure song 'Bumping Bus Stop' performed by the band Thunder and Lightning in 1974.

The children of David Pryor, who penned the song back in the seventies and also fronted the band who performed the song, are seeking $150,000 with additional attorney fees. Pryor's family claim that during the track under question, when Kanye says “Get down girl, go head get down” he samples the line “Get Down” which is similarly repeated three times on both songs.

This is not the first time Kanye has been sued for the copyright of his lyrics. In 2010, Kanye was taken to court by musician Vincent Peters regarding lyrics taken from global monster hit 'Stronger.'

However, in this instance the court ruled in favour of Kanye West and Roc-a-Fella as they were able to cite the quote “that which does not kill us makes us stronger” as a reference to the work of Frederik Nietzche rather than Peters.

Following this, in 2012, record label TufAmerica sued West for copyright infringement again when they disputed on Kanye's album 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' he samples the work of legendary pianist Eddie Bo.

'Gold Digger' has become one of Kanye's most successful songs, selling over three million copies in the US alone. The rapper is currently awaiting the arrival of his first child with his current girlfriend Kim Kardashian and is also expected to release his sixth album at some point later this year.
