Just a day after French Connection was branded 'lacklustre' by the Daily Mail, the Duchess of Cambridge was spotted getting a new top in the sale from the high street store.

Kate might have many designers falling at her feet to dress her for events, especially as she's said to have had the 'Duchess effect' on many high street stores such as Reiss and Zara - but she's like every girly girl, and loves to browse - especially when there's a bargain to be had.

The 30-year-old was seen shopping on the Kings Road in London on Saturday afternoon, where she popped into Anthropologie having a good look at a langoustine dinner plate for a mere £24, but even though she did leave empty-handed, she did have a look at the Ines column dress, which sells for £158.

Eventually Kate managed to pick up a simple silk vest in iceberg blue, for just £49 at French Connection.

The Duchess managed to wow her fellow shoppers in a cute, cropped cream cardie that she teamed with a plain white t-shirt and super tight black trousers. But, did she follow the Kings Road crowd? Oh no, this was no 'Made In Chelsea' special with towering heels. Kate kept it casual in trainers and her staple Polly Push Lock Mulberry bag - and as there was a spot of sunshine this weekend, the Duchess balanced a pair of '60s-inspired sunglasses on top of her locks.

Kate's burly guards, who were dressed in plain clothes, were seen carrying a number of Jaegar bags so we're expecting a debut any day now. Although she didn't wear any bits to the polo where she supported Prince Harry and husband William the following day.
