We love celebrity pregnancy announcements and as far as they go, Katy Perry’s was quite spectacular.

The 35-year-old singer officially announced she’s expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom in an Instagram Live post.

The news came after Perry sparked pregnancy rumours in the music video for her new song ‘Never Worn White’, where she’s seen cradling her stomach.

The music video shows the singer wearing an elaborate real flower gown.

The dress took “a team of six people over 24-hours to assemble” led by botanical artist, Kristen Alpaugh and her team.

“Every single flower you see in [Perry's] video is real. The dress took a team of six people over 24-hours to assemble on site.” Alpaugh explains.

When it comes to fashion, Katy Perry doesn’t do anything in halves, so it’s no surprise that the intricate dress doesn’t have a faux flower in sight.

“Katy gave me a colour palette and a lot of creative freedom. We worked together to come up with the final design for the dress. The whole process was an absolute dream.” The botanical artist continued.

Alpaugh shared an update on her Instagram account thanking her team for the long hours they put in to create the masterpiece.

She explained that the team “pre-assembled panels so Katy could get in and out during the shoot”.

It makes sense. Frequent pregnancy peeing waits for no music video.

In the clips Perry has shared of the video, the look appears to give Sam Smith’s recent Mardi Gras dress a run for its money.

“The dress was an installation. At one point, we had to relocate the dress on the set during the shoot and it took over 14 people to lift and move across the space.” Alpaugh adds.

Addressing the pregnancy rumours, Perry said: “I’m excited, we’re excited, and happy. It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep. I thought I would tell you guys in the best way through a piece of music.”

The singer, who has been engaged to actor, Orlando Bloom, since last year, also shared her relief at being able to tell everybody in two comical Twitter posts.

On Valentine’s Day she was spotted in a thick fur coat, carrying a bag covering her growing bump.

The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are always laced with worries about keeping it a secret - if you choose to do so - we can only imagine how an a-lister must feel.

At least she can free the bump for the rest of her pregnancy.
