Keira Knightley recently admitted she had to down shots of vodka before filming violent spanking scenes in her new film.

The actress, who portays troubled young women Sabina Spielrein, revealed she found the experience so nerve-wracking, she needed alcohol to get through filming.

Directed by David Cronenberg, A Dangerous Method looks into the relationship between psychiatrist Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender), his mentor Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) and their study on psychoanalysis.

Knightley, whose character has an affair with Jung, spoke about filming the scene with co-star Fassbender.

“I actually said to him before we shot the spanking scenes, 'If you touch me I will kill you,'" she said at the film's UK premiere during the London Film Festival.

“He did remind me that I was tied to a bed at the time and really I shouldn't be making any threats."

But Keira Knightley should be used to filming x-rated scenes by now, after her roles in King Arthur, The Jacket, Atonement and The Duchess which all saw her engage in sexual relations on screen.

The Hollywood star is currently working on Joe Wright's Anna Karenina, a film concentrating on a young woman trapped in a loveless marriage who is desperate for a better life.
