Music stars from Keith Urban to Sheryl Crow have lined up to pay tribute to country icon George Jones who passed away at the age of 81 today.
Jone was being treated in hospital for a fever and irregular blood pressure, with the country singer dying today (April 26). The singer, who was famed for chart-topping hits such as 'White Lightning,' 'Tender Years' and 'She Thinks I Still Care,' was taken to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville on April 18 where he was treated for the ailments, in the midst of a tour which he announced would be his last.
Revealing more information on Jones' passing, a family member told TMZ: “He has been on oxygen for a long while now and his lungs finally just couldn’t do it anymore and they collapsed and he passed away. He couldn’t breathe anymore on his own.”
Blake Shelton, who covered Jones' 1990 hit song Ol' Red, paid tribute to his "hero" on twitter, writing "Really REALLY bad news. We've lost a country music legend. And I've lost a hero and a friend. Goodbye George Jones..."

Whilst Sheryl Crow tweets, "Such a sad day... May you Rest in Peace George Jones" with LeAnn Rimes adding "So sad we lost 'the possum' today. R.I.P George Jones and know we didn't stop loving you today. You will live on forever in our hearts."
Faith Hill added her voice to the many tributes with her sweet message, "We lost one of the best voices God created this morning. Our hearts are saddened to hear that George Jones has passed away."
