Lara Pulver certainly was memorable as dominatrix Irene Adler when she was seen completely naked bar a pair of stilettos in Sherlock episode ‘A Scandal In Belgravia,’ and it seems she caught the attention of critics Stateside, as the actress has landed a best actress nomination at the leading American Critics' Choice Television Awards.
Despite her nude appearance drawing complaints from many viewers, the episode from the second series of the BBC One drama was a big draw, and it has become the biggest iPlayer hit so far this year.
However it’s not Lara Pulver who has caught the attention of TV critics across the pond, as she is just one of many talented British performers to be nominated.
Other stars to get a nod include Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, Appropriate Adult actress Emily Watson and Scottish Boardwalk Empire star Kelly Macdonald.
It was not just the females who have been noticed, as Homeland lead Damien Lewis, Luther’s Idris Elba, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch and Appropriate Adult actor Dominic West, who recently won a TV Bafta for his role as serial killer Fred West, are also up to win at the event.
The American Critics' Choice Television Award ceremony will take place in Beverly Hills on June 18 and are expected to have a heavy British presence, especially as ‘The Best TV Movie Or Mini-Series Category’ is dominated by British shows, with Luther, Sherlock, Page Eight and The Hour all nominated.
