Perrie Edwards 'Can Relate' To One Direction's Jealous Fans

Little Mix star Perrie Edwards says she can relate to jealous One Direction fans because she used to have crushes on celebrities when she was younger.

The singer, who is engaged to One Direction singer Zayn Malik, used to have crushes on American singer Jesse McCartney and Dougie Poynter from McFly and would be “gutted” when they got girlfriends.

‘’When I was younger, and I found out Jesse McCartney had a girlfriend, I was heartbroken,” she  told Now magazine.

“I was like: “Noooo!” Then Dougie Poynter from McFly started seeing Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays and I was gutted."

She added, “So I can relate, you’re a young girl with a crush on someone. You’re like: ‘Damn it!’”

The 20-year-old was speaking about the abuse the girlfriends of One Direction get online from diehard fans.

Perrie admits that she receives some nasty messages but generally, the messages are positive.

“I’ve been really lucky, One Direction fans have been really supportive. I had so much positive feedback. Our Little Mix fans are incredible – they’ll support us no matter what,” she explained.

The couple have been together for almost two years and they have been engaged since August 2013.

They’ve had to cope with a lot of time apart this year - with Zayn being on a world tour and Little Mix doing a lot of work in the US.

They have been making up for lost time by spending Christmas, New Year and Zayn 21st birthday (January 12) together. They even took a romantic trip to Paris over the holidays.

Perrie wrote Zayn a sweet message on Twitter to wish him happy birthday, writing; “So who would've thought that by 'sometime', you actually meant forever? Sweet! Happy birthday, love.”
