Pharrell Williams Knocks Sam Bailey Off UK Number One With 'Happy'

Pharrell Williams has ended 2013 with a bang after scoring the last number one of the year with his smash hit single 'Happy,' putting an end to Sam Bailey's reign at the top with her X Factor winner's single.

The 40-year-old was a close contender for the Christmas number one last week but was kept off the top spot by Bailey and her ballad 'Skyscraper,' but he has now triumphed after pushing 107,000 sales over the last seven days, scoring him his third chart-topper in the UK.

Pharrell has dominated the charts for much of the year with his Daft Punk collaboration 'Get Lucky' and Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' which features T.I.

Pharrell recently announced that he will be releasing a solo album in 2014 under Columbia records following success with his features on other artists' tracks this year.

Meanwhile, 36-year-old Bailey, who won this year's X Factor competition two weeks ago is now at number two while Avicii's 'Hey Brother' has climbed two places to three.

Jason Derulo's 'Trumpet' is at four while Eminem and Rihanna's 'The Monster' has seen a boost in sales at number five.

Lily Allen, who was previously a contender for the Christmas number one, is now at six with 'Somewhere Only We Know' while Ellie Goulding is a non-mover at seven with 'How Long Will I Love You.' Jumping seven places to number eight is Katy Perry 'Roar' while One Direction's ballad 'Story Of My Life' and former chart-topper OneRepublic's 'Counting Stars' are nine and ten respectively.

Over on the album charts, Robbie Williams is still refusing to budge from the top spot with 'Swings Both Ways' which has enjoyed several weeks at number one and became the UK's 1,000 chart-topper while Gary Barlow's 'Since I Saw You Last' and One Direction's 'Midnight Memories' follow closely in second and third place respectively.
