Hollywood superstar Clint Eastwood's appearance at the Republican National Convention was supposed to add a bit of stardust to the nomination of their Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, but it turned out very differently for the 'Dirty Harry' star.
Whatever your politics Eastwood is a bona fide screen legend, with an iconic career in Westerns and two Oscars as a director marking him out as one of tinseltown's renaissance men, however all that went up in smoke after he staged a bizarre conversation with a chair he pretended was President Barack Obama.
Accusing 'Chairbama' or 'invisible Obama' as he became known on Twitter, of doing many things wrong as President, while descending into rambling and also implying that 'Chairbama' had told Mitt Romney to do anatomically impossible things.
Eastwood's appearance sparked wide reactions on Twitter, ranging from amused bafflement to outright horror. Even President Obama tweeted in response writing, "This seat's taken accompanied by a picture of the President sitting in a chair."

The speech even sparked a new internet meme, with thousands of people tweeting pictures of themselves, their dogs and even lego men talking to empty chairs, or 'eastwooding' as the practice is now known.
The Simpsons even got in on the act after an old still of a headline in a newspaper showing grandpa yelling at a cloud was photoshopped to say "Old Man Yells At Chair".
Celebs and commentators also struggled to contain their mirth, with Michael Schaeffer of The New Republic writing: "I demand to see Invisible Obama's invisible birth certificate."
Patton Oswalt from King of Queens wrote:"'If Clint Eastwood ever talks to a chair on national TV, people will need a way to reassure each other' — inventor of Twitter, March 2006."
To be fair to Eastwood, at 82, he may be a little old to be delivering unscripted turns on the national stage, but that didn't stop the web turning him into a figure of fun.
