As Cosmopolis is set to be released in a few days, Robert Pattison has become the newest star to sign on to Queen of the Desert.
According to a report from Variety, the actor has signed on to portray one of history’s most famous men: T.E. Lawrence, the British Army officer who was immortalized by Peter O’Toole in Lawrence of Arabia, alongside Naomi Watts as English writer Getrude Bell.
The film will chronicle Bell’s life as an archaeologist, explorer, writer, cartographer and political attaché for the British Empire, and she was a good friend to Lawrence over the years as the two helped establish the Hashemite dynasties in Jordan and Iraq.
It appears Queen of the Desert will be for Bell what Lawrence of Arabia was for Lawrence, which means Pattinson won’t have to live up to O’Toole’s performance, or risk being clouded by Watts.
Production for Queen of the Desert is scheduled to start in the late fall – right before the press tour for the last installment of the Twilight saga commences.
