Ryan Giggs Made Team GB Captain For London 2012 Olympics

Ryan Giggs has been confirmed as Stuart Pearce’s captain for team GB at this summer's Olympics. Wow…

The 38-year-old Manchester United star is the oldest member of the 18-man squad who will take on Uruguar, UAE and Senegal later this month, having won 12 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two UEFA Champions League competitions with his club.

But Giggs, who has committed a string of infidelities whilst being married to wife Stacey Cooke, including Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas and his brother’s wife Natasha Giggs, is set to represent his first major international tournament with the Olympic Games.

Giggs said: "Obviously I have experience and there are a lot of younger players in this squad. As captain, hopefully I can pass that on to them."

Team GB will play their first match in half a century when they take on brazil at the Riverside Stadium on Friday 20 July, with Stuart Pearce saying about his captain: ‘’I think Ryan is the standout captain amongst the group. He has got the respect of all the members of the group and I am quite looking forward to working with him and alongside him.’’

And Giggs has said how much he appreciates being part of the GB team, having added: "It is a tremendous honour to be part of the Olympics. Stuart has obviously given the me the captaincy, which is even better so I am really looking forward to it.’’

You’ve got a lot to make up for, Giggsy.
