'You Must Do It!' Shailene Woodley Admits Jennifer Lawrence Convinced Her To Sign Up For Divergent

Shailene Woodley is about to hit the big time. The 22-year-old is gearing up for the release of her new movie Divergent, the big screen adaptation of Veronica Roth's smash hit novel. But the actress has admitted that if it wasn't for Jennifer Lawrence she probably wouldn't have signed up for the film.

The actress plays Tris Prior in the upcoming movie, which tells the story of a dystopian future where society is split into five factions, with Tris finding herself fitting into more than one regimental division.

Lionsgate's co-president Erik Feid has revealed that he enlisted Hunger Games star Lawrence to help him convince Woodley to take on the lead role, with Shailene admitting she was unsure about making the jump into a franchise after starring in TV show The Secret Life of the American Teenager for five years.

It sounds like it didn't take much for Jennifer to convince Shailene, with the Divergent star revealing they exchanged emails where Jen told her: "'You must do it. You will not regret it for a second'".

"'Yes, there are some hard things, but there are so many beautiful things that will come from an opportunity like this," she tells the Hollywood Reporter of their email conversation.

With Shailene already prepping for the sequel, Insurgent, she admits she was nervous about signing a contract for multiple movies: "Having come off a TV show, I was kind of in the place where I was like, 'I'm never signing a contract for more than one movie', because once you do sign a contract, legally, you're liable.

"[Even] if you don't find something creatively stimulating anymore, you've still got to do it legally."

Fans of the books will be looking forward to Tris' romance with Four, played by hunky Theo James. And while the trio of films won't require the young actress to strip off, she admits she would be open to some raunchy sex scenes in the future:

"When somebody's doing a sex scene and they're wearing a bra and underwear, that's not how it happens in real life," she explains. "If I'm going to say yes to a movie where this is necessary, then I'm going to bring truth to that situation."

Divergent will open on March 21 in the US and April 4 in the UK.
