There's almost a whole week to go until the 2011 Christmas Number One is announced, but Simon Cowell has already offered his congratulations to Military Wives, who are almost certain to replace X Factor winners Little Mix at the top of the charts and take home the festive accolade.
The music mogul, gearing up for the final of X Factor USA this week, took to Twitter to congratulate both acts on their achievements.
"Congrats to Little Mix & congrats to Military Wives," he wrote. "It's a great cause & a worthy Christmas No.1 (sic)"
The choir, led by Gareth Malone, are the 1/8 odds-on favourites to take the festive top spot on December 25, with Little Mix at 11/2.
The girlband's cover of 'Cannonball' hit No. 1 yesterday after selling 210,000 copies in its first week of release, but is considered highly unlikely to stay on top for Christmas.
The Military Wives' song 'Wherever You Are' has gathered mountains of support over the past few weeks, becoming the biggest-selling single ever for online retailer Amazon, and also becoming their most pre-ordered music product of any kind.
Stacey Solomon, the cast of The Only Way Is Essex, Alex Day and Nirvana are also expected to enter the Christmas charts at the weekend, though none look set to challenge the frontrunners.
The Christmas Chart will be announced on a special episode of Top Of The Pops on Christmas Day.
