Simon Cowell has said that Adele's success surprised him because he thought the music industry was too image obsessed to accept her as a star.
The X Factor USA judge was speaking about the Grammy and Brit award winning star during an interview with the Sun On Sunday in which he praised Adele for not changing her style to chase fame and success.
"Adele is an incredible story," he told the paper. "You wouldn't have predicted this years ago when we were such an image-infatuated business."
Adding: "Here is somebody who has done everything her own way, gone back to basics and achieved this incredible success. She's one of the most down-to-earth people you'll meet - and she hasn't changed a bit."
Meanwhile, Adele has been advised against rescheduling the US tour she had to postpone in 2011 after being struck down by problems with her throat.
"The surgery was successful but doctors are still concerned she could damage her golden voice," a source told The Star on Sunday. Adding: "They have given the go-ahead for one-off shows but a full tour has been ruled out for now."
Jessie J claimed she was not like Adele this week after she lost her voice whilst on tour in Australia.
