Strictly Come Dancing: Denise Van Outen Continues To Reign The Judges Leaderboard

Tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing saw a variety of dances from the contestants, but it was Denise and partner James that took the top spot again this week.

Denise performed an American smooth to John Lennon’s Imagine however in rehearsals it wasn’t looking so smooth. James had incorporated a few dangerous lifts into the routine and when practicing one of them, Denise took a tumble but luckily she wasn’t too hurt.

And fortunately for the pairing their dance went off without a hitch, leaving them with a score of 37. Len described it as “beautiful” whilst Darcey said the lifts were “amazing.”

Also nearing the top of the leaderboard was TV star Dani Harmer, with a score of 36. Dani took on Beyonce’s Single Ladies and even managed to get some of the iconic dance into her stunning samba. Craig said she was a “hot little dancer” and Len commented on how brave Dani was to start on her own with Beyonce’s trademark moves.

Westlife’s Nicky Byrne bounced back from last week’s dance-off to match Dani’s 36, with his energetic Charleston. Sparkling in sky blue Nicky and partner Karen received great comments from the judges with Darcey describing it as “magic,” Len saying it was “top two” and Craig saying it was his “best yet.”

However the judges weren’t impressed with everyone’s energy tonight as Lisa Riley and Victoria Pendleton were slated for lacking energy, or as Len puts it “oomph.”

Lisa is normally the one who gets complimented on her high-energy routines, but it seems she toned it down for this week’s rumba. The judges weren’t happy with the new Lisa, with Len saying there was “no feeling” and Bruno describing it as “understated.” However Lisa still left the dance floor with a score of 27.

Victoria was also criticised for her lack of energy in her salsa to Robbie William’s Candy. Craig said the props around her “had more fluidity” whilst Len said she needed “more go.” These criticisms left Victoria with tears in her eyes, as Brendan tried to shelter her from the judges – who gave the couple just 21 points.

For Michael Vaughan it wasn’t about the lack of energy but more about the lack of sexy. According to the judges the argentine tango, which Michael took on to the tune of Bust Your Windows, is all about the sexy male and they didn’t think Michael had that in him. Bruno said it looked like Michael was “concentrating on trying to get through the routine” whilst Craig said the cricketer was “stiff.” Len however stuck up for Michael commenting on the “beautiful lifts.” Despite his lack of sex Michael still scored a respectable 26.

Someone who wasn’t struggling with her sexy side was Kimberley Walsh who danced the tango with partner Pasha Kovalev. Scoring highly with 34, Kimberley was described by Bruno as an “ultra vixen” and Darcey commented that she “loved the moody pouting.” All the judges agreed that the mood and drama of the dance was brilliant.

Louis Smith took on the paso-doble to one of his favourite songs Dirty Diana. Louis seemed to find it hard in rehearsals to not dance like Michael Jackson however he managed to keep it off the dance floor tonight. However the judges also felt that he kept the story out of the dance. “Nothing going on. No attack, no fire,” said Len whilst Craig said that Louis had to learn “to act these dances” before he would get higher scores. He came away with 27.
