Swapping Boybands? Zayn Malik 'Wishes He Was A Member Of The Mend'

Zayn Malik may have some serious explaining to do with his One Direction bandmates after he reportedly told Britain's Got Talent contestants The Mend he wished he was a member of their group.

The Live While We're Young hitmakers have sold millions of records, racked up several number ones and are currently on their first world tour, but it seems that's just not enough for Zayn who has set his sights on another boyband to join.

Former 'BGT' hopefuls The Mend recently supported Little Mix on their UK tour and they were able to hang out with Zayn who was supporting his girlfriend Perrie Edwards.

“D’y know what – Zayn was actually there on one of the nights,” member Dean told Sugarscape.

“It was Liverpool Echo arena and Zayn come up to us backstage and he was like, d'you know what boys, I take my hat off to you guys, you’re wicked. Do you know what? I wish I was in a group like yours.”

Dean added: “We were like, yes – buzzing. I said I wish I was in your group mate – I wouldn’t mind the money!” Unfortunately for Zayn - but thankfully for One Direction - The Mend snubbed his proposition so it looks like he'll be sticking with Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis for a while longer.

Jay revealed: “Yeah he asked to join the band, but we said we’re not looking for a member at the moment.”

Of course, Zayn was only joking about joining The Mend – we hope – but the singer recently admitted that he would have quit his career a long time ago if it wasn't for the support of his bandmates.

“[The best thing about being in a band is] The other four lads. I’ve got four very good mates and that’s cool,” Zayn told The Sunday Life.

“We all keep each other down to earth and there’s defo no way I could have done this as a solo artist.”

Speaking about the pressures of fame, Zayn continued: “I would have cracked up and given it all up and gone home by now. The lads keep me grounded and it’s good to know you’re not the only person going through everything. We’re sharing every experience.”
