A film retrospective in honour of Tom Cruise's Hollywood career has been postponed following the tragic elementary school shooting in Connecticut last week.
The movie star was due to be the guest of honour at the Film Society of Lincoln Center celebration in New York on Monday, but the fundraising bash has since been axed.
A statement issued on Monday by Film Society representative Rose Kuo reads: "Out of respect for the families who lost loved ones in Newtown, Connecticut, we are postponing tonight's event. We extend our love and condolences to our neighbors. Our community grieves with yours."
The news comes just days after Cruise's Friday premiere for his new movie Jack Reacher in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was pushed back in light of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, which claimed the lives of 20 children and six staffmembers.
Suspected gunman Adam Lanza is also believed to have killed his own mother, who was a teacher at the school, earlier on Friday, before turning the firearm on himself.
