'It's True': George Clooney And Amal Alamuddin Officially Engaged, 'Thrilled' Father Of Actor Confirms

George Clooney’s father Nicholas has finally confirmed the actor is engaged to 36 year-old British lawyer Amal Alamuddin after a six month romance, admitting that it’s “wonderful news”.

Rumours of an engagement surfaced over the weekend after the legal beauty was spotted wearing a ring last week. While a rep for the star has declined to comment 80 year-old Nicholas Clooney has reportedly told The New York Daily News that the infamous bachelor was finally ready to settle down.

He said: "It's true, and we’re thrilled. We think Amal is a wonderful girl, and it's wonderful news. We think it will be a great marriage,"

"This is their time, and they’ll have their own announcement to make, but suffice it to say, Nina and I are thrilled,” he added referring to his wife.

Following the end of his four year marriage to actress Talia Balsam in 1993, George had vowed to stay single. After a procession of girlfriends it had seemed like the Monuments Men star would never settle down, however things obviously changed when he met Amal.

"It's actually not that surprising," a source told Us Weekly of their engagement, "He likes a woman with brains and class. She's the full package."

"This is the healthiest relationship I've ever seen George in,” another added.

"He seems incredibly happy, and Amal is such a sweet and intelligent girl who has her own thoughts and ideas and doesn't just bow down to everything he says."

Congrats to the happy couple!
