With break dancing from Will and performances from Beady Eye and Avril Lavigne, The Voice 2013’s semi final was explosive to say the least. Tonight’s show saw the semi finalists sing with their coaches, performing solo AND singing altogether. But it was Matt, Andrea, Leah and Mike who came out on top of the public vote; bagging themselves places in next week’s live final.
First up was team Jessie. Kicking off the team performances, their cover of Rihanna’s Stay got the show off to an amazing start. Ash then took to the stage for his solo performance of ‘Ex Factor’, prompting positive feedback from the coaches, with Will describing his voice as “angelic”. But in the end it was Matt’s performance of ‘Girl on fire’ that won over the public, bagging him a place in next week’s final.
Next to take to the stage was team Danny. Performing ‘Let her go’ as a team; they wowed the studio with their flawless vocals and guitar playing from Danny himself. We then saw solo performances from both Andrea and Karl. Andrea’s version of ‘One of us’ received outstanding feedback from the coaches. Danny told her she had the “voice of an angel” while Will added that she sounded “magical and enchanted.” Clearly the public agreed, as she came out on top and will be singing again in next week’s final, beating Karl’s performance of R Kelly’s ‘I believe I can fly’.

A somewhat more bonkers group performance came in the form of team Will. Their performance of ‘Rapture’ saw coach Will not only sing, but also graffiti a wall and breakdance on stage! Cleo and Leah then performed their solos in a bid to win over the viewers. Cleo rocked the stage with her cover of ‘Don’t let go’, but it was quirky Leah who won the public vote with her version of ‘Killing me softly.’ The coaches certainly seemed impressed with Leah’s performance, with Tom commenting, “I thought it was great, I loved it.” And Danny adding, “I thought it was fantastic.”
Finally, we have team Tom. Their group performance of ‘Games people play’ had the coaches dancing on their feet and the audience singing along. We then saw Tom’s “soul man” Joseph, and “country boy” Mike take to the stage for their solo performances. Joseph wowed the coaches with his version of Boys II Men’s ‘End of the road’. Will said, “I am so happy you sang that song”, while Tom added that, “One Joseph is more than enough” after comparing his performance to the original. But it seems the public are partial to country, as it was Mike who got through to the final with his country version of ‘Picking up the pieces’; which prompted presenter Holly Willoughby to say “your voice does things to me it really shouldn’t”. You’re a fan then, Holly?
So there we have it, the finalists are; Matt from team Jessie, Andrea from team Danny, Leah from team Will, and Mike from Team Tom. Make sure you tune in next Saturday to find out who will be crowned the winner of The Voice 2013!
