Former Big Brother winner Brian Belo is said to be suing the makers for The Only Way Is Essex for breach of copyright.

The reality star believes that the bosses of the hit ITV2 show reproduced a format that he created with Sassy Films and Massive TV for his show, Totally Essex and has therefore filed a claim with the High Court, according to the Financial Times.

It is believed that the trailer for Totally Essex featured Mark Wright and Amy Childs, who both went on to star in TOWIE.

Releasing a joint statement over the claims that Brian, who is hoping to claim £4 million compensation if his case is successful, Digital Spy reports ITV and Lime Pictures saying:

"The Only Way is Essex is an original concept created and developed by an award-winning team at Lime Pictures.

"Brian Belo's claim against Lime and ITV is totally without foundation and will be vigorously defended. The creative team at Lime Pictures is very proud of TOWIE and the notion that it was not entirely their own work is a serious allegation which is completely refuted."

Brian has reportedly requested in the writ that TOWIE be taken off air until he allows it to be broadcast again.
