X Factor 2012 - 'This Is Ridiculous': Frontrunner Ella Henderson Out Of The Competition In Shock Elimination

She has been heralded as the front runner on the X Factor this year but tonight saw Ella Henderson's X Factor dream come to an end after she got the lowest amount of votes of the night.

Having impressed the audience and judges week after week, Ella soon became a favourite to win the title this year. However, Ella's future on the show was soon in doubt when host Dermot O'Leary announced that she was in the bottom two alongside fellow favourite James Arthur.

With the result of the bottom two having shocked everyone, the judges and audience watched on as Ella performed her rendition of Daniel Beddingfield's 'If You're Not The One' and James performed Alicia Keys' 'Falling'.

As the emotional finalists finished their performances, the decision over who would be missing out on a place in the quarter finals next week, went over to the judges.

Speaking first, Tulisa Contostavlos commented: "This is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous", before adding that she was standing by her act:

"My decision is obvious. The person I'm sending home is James and I should have not had to make that decision."

Up next was Nicole Scherzinger, who said: "No matter what happens today it will be a great tragedy for this shoe because you two are the most talented people to grace this stage."

Directing her comment to Ella, Nicole added: "You are meant for the stars my love, I have no worries about you", before sticking by her act James, saying: "But I've got to go with my boy."

Shocked by the news, Louis Walsh said: I'm shocked. I thought these two were the finalists. Ella you have so much potential. James I think you're amazing but I have to send someone home so the act I have to send home is James."

With two votes against James, it was down to Gary Barlow to either send James home or send the decision to deadlock.

Sending the decision to deadlock, Gary said: "I always knew it was going to come to this. It's about the vocals. There isn't anything between these two acts but James I've been right behind you so the act I'm sending home is Ella."

With the decision into deadlock, it was down to Dermot to deliver the news. After a tense few seconds, the host announced that Ella would be leaving the show.

Commenting after her exit, Ella said: "This year, the talent in the show is incredible. I just want to say thanks. I wouldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for the show."
