Newsnight viewers spot 'frog' leaping through House of Commons

Does this footage confirm that Newsnight viewers are hopping mad about politics?

Well, possibly.

Footage from the program appears to show a creature leaping across the floor as Labour MP Kerry McCathy speaks about drug licensing in a committee room in the House of Commons.

Twitter user Judgement Dave was quick to comment, speculating it could be a frog - though on closer inspection it could also be a mouse.

He said: “Watching #newsnight and, when @KerryMP was shown talking about NICE drug licensing in #hoc today, was that a frog under the table? #Newsnight #slomo

It’s not the first time footage of wildlife has emerged from inside the Commons.

In 2017, the Mirror reported that a video showed a mouse darting along the bottom of counters where meals are prepared.

In 2016, Parliament spent a record £132,000 on pest control and 1,700 traps were laid throughout the buildings.

Lobby reporters are also repeatedly forced to share their offices with mice.
