NFL Draft 2019: Kyler Murray picked first overall by Arizona Cardinals and every first round pick in Nashville

Kyler Murray has been taken first overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The 21-year-old becomes the first player to ever be drafted in the first round of both MLB (where he went ninth overall in 2018 to the Oakland Athletics) and the NFL.

The Cardinals hope the electric Oklahoma quarterback, 21 years old and a one-year starter, will revitalise a franchise just a year removed from trading up to draft fellow signal caller Josh Rosen.

The decision in this year’s draft now points towards Rosen being traded after he struggled to justify being selected tenth overall under difficult circumstances as the Cardinals went 3-13.

Murray’s allure comes in his lightning fast legs, which gashed college defences last season, leading to him contributing 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground, as well as 4,361 passing yards (69 per cent completion) and 42 touchdowns with just seven interceptions.

After finally declaring his intent to pursue his dream of playing football in January, the Texan, who is just five feet, 10 inches, has been bullish about his prospects as a professional, outlining his intent to be “the best that ever played the game.”

The San Francisco 49ers made Nick Bosa the No 2 pick, while the New York Jets, after much deliberation and talk of a potential trade, plumped for Alabama star Quinnen Williams. The Oakland Raiders, the source of much mockery over the past year, attempted to fix their lockeroom, installing

The New York Giants then pulled a shocker with Daniel Jones arriving from Duke to become Eli Manning's successor as he nears the end of his career.

The New England Patriots opted to hand Tom Brady some help, drafting Arizona State wide receiver N'Keal Harry with the final pick of the night.
