Baker Mayfield reportedly suffered torn labrum during Week 2 tackle vs. Texans

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a partially torn labrum when he attempted a tackle after throwing an interception in Week 2, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday.

The left shoulder injury will reportedly not require immediate surgery and Mayfield will continue on for the Browns.

Mayfield threw an interception minutes before halftime against the Houston Texans on Sept. 19. As Justin Reid made his way back through the Browns on the return, Mayfield went in hard for the tackle. He hit his left shoulder on Reid and jammed it on the ground. He was slow to get up as his left arm hung by his side.

The fourth-year quarterback headed for the locker room and was listed as questionable. But within no time he was back warming up and in the game, having not missed a snap.

“Obviously, not an ideal situation," Mayfield told reporters after the 31-21 win, via Cleveland.com. "Trying to force him back inside. I think he realized it was me standing right there so he put his head down and ran right after me. It kind of popped in and out, but I will be good. Nothing too serious.”

Mayfield hasn't missed a practice snap, per Rapoport. He has played in the two games since then, both wins against Chicago and Minnesota. The Browns (3-1) are tied atop the AFC North with the Ravens and Bengals.

That's despite a quiet start from Mayfield and the club. The quarterback has only thrown two touchdowns alongside two interceptions and has been sacked 12 times, five total against the Bears. It's about half of the 2020 sack total despite being a quarter of the way into the schedule. He also has the lowest quarterback (59.5) rating of his up-and-down career.

The Browns travel to play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday and have +110 odds at Bet MGM. They're currently tied for the fifth-best title odds (+1200).
