A state-of-the-art ‘super surgery’ set to deliver appointments for up to 25,000 patients has opened in North West London. The new Wembley Park site, which has been 15 years in the making, is now the largest NHS GP practice in the area.

It is the latest addition to the area's £2.7 billion renovation, first revealed in 2008, which already includes OVO Arena, Boxpark, Wembley Stadium, and around 5,000 homes. Managed by Wembley Park Medical Centre, the surgery was initially expected to be ready in January but officially announced its opening yesterday (Wednesday, June 5) - although it has been open to the public since last month.

Delivered by Quitain - the developers behind Wembley Park - the 11,000 square feet building will contain a number of GP spaces, including two clinical suites, 14 consult exam rooms, four treatment rooms, and an e-consult room. Located on the ground floor of the recently opened Repton Gardens residential development, the building will have 14 GPs - two fewer than the 16 originally announced.

Brent’s cabinet member for public health and adult social care, Cllr Neil Nerva, said he was ‘thrilled’ to be at the opening of the new medical centre, which he claimed ‘goes hand in hand with the council’s ambition to create a healthier Brent’.

He added: “I’m delighted that local people will benefit from such a brilliant and necessary local resource as part of the growth of the area.”

Originally located on Wembley Park Drive, the Medical Centre has now tripled in size since moving a ten-minute walk away to the new Humphry Repton Lane site - close to Olympic Way and Boxpark. The surgery will also now be able to carry out minor surgery and respiratory testing services, which were not possible at the previous site.

Quintain claims the surgery will ‘significantly increase patient capacity’ in the area by providing space for 25,000 local residents. The developers' CEO, James Saunders, said the purpose-built facility will improve 'high-quality health care' provision in the borough.

He added: “At Quintain, we believe that access to healthcare is a fundamental aspect of a thriving community, and we are proud to support the provision of these essential services. We look forward to continuing our efforts to support the health and well-being of both our residents and our local community and to provide an exceptional quality of life in Wembley Park.”

A GP partner at Wembley Park Medical Centre, Dr Sachin P Patel, said: “I have been a GP at the surgery for 11 years and I’m thrilled for the opening of the new space, which now allows us to serve a larger proportion of the community."

He added: “Our new premises will continue to have that familiar and family-like approach which it has had since the practice began in 1970. [...] This is not only going to hugely benefit the local community but also our staff, who have been working in cramped conditions for many years.”
