The NHS is moving into Bristol City Council’s offices at 100 Temple Street, saving the local authority £2million a year. Health authority Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (BNSSG ICB) and NHS South West will occupy half of the building and share it with the local authority.

Changes since covid mean more council staff are working from home, remotely or have been moved to City Hall. The Citizen Service Point, where residents can receive advice, pay bills and access a computer, will remain at the premises.

Refurbishment work is still ongoing but NHS staff have already moved in. City council director of property, assets and infrastructure Pete Anderson told the council’s strategy and resources policy committee on Monday, September 16: “The fit-out is going really well.

“There are four floors and eight floor plates in Temple Street. The NHS has been refitting out on the north wing, so it would be the ground floor, first floor, second and third.

“They are also updating a reception on the right-hand side, so there will be a public-facing reception. We are also actively seeking to let two of the other floor plates out of the eight and we’ve had some really good news recently, so that’s a really good opportunity to generate some income and work with partners across the city.”

Interim chief executive Paul Martin said: “I met with the chief executive of the ICB on Friday and he’s personally already there. He’s very happy about it. He’s very satisfied with the new arrangements.”

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: “Following the rationalisation of space at 100 Temple Street last year, we have since successfully let the ground, first, second and third north wing Floors of the building to the NHS. The lease has delivered over £900,000 in additional income and savings for the current financial year and represents the first stage of agreeing commercial lets for 100 Temple Street, a project forecast to achieve £2million worth of vital recurring income and savings by the end of 2027.”

Work on the new reception area should be completed in November, and there will also be improvements to the front ramp and steps and rear car park. The ICB and NHS South West confirmed that they had moved into the property from their former base at 360 Bristol, previously called South Plaza, on Marlborough Street.
