PARIS (AP) — The 2020 Tour de France will begin in Nice.

The Riviera city, which hosts the final stage of the Paris-Nice race each year, previously held the Grand Depart in 1981.

Cycling's biggest race last stopped there in 2013 during its 100th edition.

"The most recent editions of Paris-Nice have shown us that the variety of landscapes and relief in this region are conducive to suspense, attacking and a thrilling spectacle," Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme said. "This is exactly what we want in order to give the Tour de France 2020 a dynamic tone."

This year's race will start from Noirmoutier, in the western Pays de La Loire region. The 2019 Tour will begin in Brussels to celebrate the 50th anniversary of five-time champion Eddy Merckx's first win.
