Grimmy had a very busy few months during his time on the show, juggling mentoring duties with his boys category, judging the show every Saturday and Sunday night and presenting his Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

Having insisted that there’s ‘no bad blood’ over his decision to watch the show from the comfort of his sofa this year, Nick has now explained exactly why he decided to walk away from The X Factor.

He told the Daily Star: “I love going to work and I like to be busy. But doing X Factor and the radio was work all the time. I was doing the show in the morning and then working on X Factor from midday to midnight. It was every day.

“I will miss X Factor but I don’t regret my decision to go.

“There hadn’t been any discussions when I made my decision. So I thought before there were months of speculation over who was going to be back, I’d say I didn’t want to and get it out of the way.

“Once I decided, I’d decided and that was it. But X Factor hasn’t put me off TV at all.”

So there you go.

Grimmy added that he doesn’t believe the show needs to make any major changes this year, and that it would be a shame to rest it.

Nick isn’t the only one to announce his departure, with Caroline Flack and Olly Murs also revealing that they won’t be returning to host The X Factor this year.

Louis Tomlinson and Louis Walsh, meanwhile, are amongst those rumoured to be taking over Nick Grimshaw’s judging seat.
