Nick Knowles praises Prince Harry's DIY skills after working with him

Nick Knowles has worked on a number of high profile projects on DIY SOS, from adapting a paralysed survivor of Westminter terror attack’s home, to rebuilding key community facilities for the people of Grenfell, and worked with hundreds of volunteers and professionals alike.

When speaking to Alex Jones and Ore Oduba on The One Show, Nick, 55, revealed how the Princes were rather impressive at DIY and extremely committed, when they stopped by to lend a hand on his BBC show DIY SOS back in 2015.

‘Were they actually any help?’ Alex, 41, giggled.

‘They were actually,’ the show’s presenter said of the Princes, when they offered their help on The Big Build: Veteran’s Special that took place in Manchester at the end of 2015.

‘Because we had a lot to get through, I tried to move them on at one stage, and William was like, “No, I’m not leaving until I’ve finished this wall”,’ Nick revealed.

‘So he [William] was doing painting and Harry was doing paving slabs out the back, and there were a hundred builders also, and he [Harry] was like, “What, you never seen a Prince lay a paving slab before?”‘

When Alex asked if he’d had an invite to the upcoming Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Nick was coy to answer.

‘No one’s talking about whether I’ve got an invite or not – are they?’ he questioned.

‘I live at the bottom of the hill, I’ve a house at the bottom of the hill from Windsor Castle and he’s round borrowing cups of sugar all the time, so I see him every day,’ the DIY maverick joked.

Speaking about the wedding, he seemed genuinely excited and please for Harry: ‘I think it’s a great thing though, I’m really excited about it! And the combination of Royalty and Hollywood – it’s amazing with the next chapter. Everyone’s got something to write about.’

Nick and his team are currently involved in rebuilding community facilities that were destroyed in last year’s horrific Grenfell tower block fire.
