Nickelodeon has cast its first ever openly-trans actor in Danger Force.

Later this month, the superhero series will feature 13-year-old trans actor Sasha A Cohen alongside his twin sister, Natalie R Cohen. It's the first time an openly-trans actor has been cast by the network.

"I had never felt comfortable about who I am, and I always thought that I would never play a transgender role," Sasha told Variety.

"But there are so many kids out there who need to see someone like them – a role model who has the ability to put themselves out there."

The episode, which will air on June 19, was written and directed by fellow Danger Force star Michael D Cohen (of no relation to the siblings).

In 2019, the Henry Danger actor revealed that he himself had transitioned 19 years prior, previously telling Time:"I was misgendered at birth. I identify as male, and I am proud that I have had a transgender experience – a transgender journey."

Danger Force follows the adventures at the Swellview Academy for the Gifted, a fake school where superheroes in training learn to harness their powers and fight crime.

Sasha was a participant in the Trans Youth Acting Challenge launched by Michael in December, which was designed to help trans and non-binary youth kickstart their acting careers.

Posting to Instagram on Wednesday (June 2), Sasha wrote: "I has so much fun working on Danger Force and I can't wait to see the episode!"

Danger Force airs on Nickelodeon.
