Nicki Minaj has been to visit her brother, Jelani Maraj, in prison for the first time since he was found guilty of repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl, it has been reported.
Nicki is said to have had a bad relationship with her brother since the charges were brought against him, however, she agreed to go to the prison to support their mother, Carol, who wanted to visit her son.
TMZ report that Nicki took Carol to the Nassau County Jail in New York last week, with Carol reportedly not seeing Jelani since the guilty verdict last week.
Jelani was found guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child, with the 38-year-old repeatedly sexually assaulting the schoolgirl over a period of eight months.
He was arrested and charged in 2015 and entered a not guilty plea in May of last year.
Jelani was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 14 December, facing between 25 years and life in prison.
The New York Daily News previously reported that Jelani was emotionless as he was convicted in court, with the victim – now aged 14 – testifying that on one occasion he assaulted her anally, with her younger brother giving evidence as a witness to one of the attacks.
Jelani’s defence previously claimed that the girl’s mum made up the allegations in a bid to get £25million from Minaj, however, the prosecution found DNA evidence on the girl’s pyjama bottoms that were a one-in-291billion match with Jelani.
