Nicola Roberts' ex given lifetime restraining order after threatening to 'stab and burn' Girls Aloud star

Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts has been granted a lifetime restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, former soldier Carl Davies, after he subjected her to five years of stalking hell.

Davies threatened to “stab and burn” the gorgeous redhead and even set up fake social media accounts so that he could bombard Nicola with abusive messages.

The Afghanistan veteran would switch between sending messages that proclaimed his love for the singer, as well as sending bouquets of flowers, to abusive and terrifying messages that threatened violence.

Nicola was sure to not respond to any of Davies’ attempts to contact her but screenshot everything, contacting the police when he turned his target to her close friend, Joel Compass.

Nicola and Carl dated at the height of her Girls Aloud fame but the pair split in 2008 after 18 months together. Then 22, Nicola called time on their relationship due to their explosive rows and Carl did not start messaging the star until 2012.

Davies bombarded Nicola until February this year when she went to the police, with Davies being remanded in prison until their court date.

Nicola’s victim statement, which was read to Judge Jonathan Black at Guildford Crown Court, read: “The messages he sent reminded me of all the terrible things that happened when we were together.

“It was only really last year when he started threatening my friend that I realised things couldn’t go on and I reported it to the police.”

Speaking about Davies’ time in prison, Nicola continued: “I feel safe in my own home knowing he can’t get to me. I am worried for when Carl gets out and when he access again to a mobile phone.”

Davies admitted to one count of stalking and another count of persistent use of public communication networks to cause annoyance or inconvenience and was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years, which meant that he was released from jail immediately.

He was also given a lifetime restraining order against Nicola and her friend, Joel, and he is forbidden from going within 250 metres of the pair or Nicola’s family.

Judge Jonathan Black said: “For a period up to 2008 you were in a relationship with Nicola Roberts, the singer-songwriter, but that came to an end in 2008.

“You sent 3,000 messages to her through the use of around 35 fake social media accounts. Some of those messages were loving, wanting to be with her, some messages with little meaning but other messages threatening serious violence, mentioning knives and burning.”

Monica Stevenson, defending, told the court that Davies suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder since leaving the army.

A source close to Nicola said of the court case: “Nicola is relieved she no longer has to live in fear or suffer abuse but it is going to take her a long time to move on from this.”
