Nicole Kidman has admitted that she tries to act like she’s 21 when it comes to her acting roles.

The Oscar-winning actress, 49, said she is trying to be as “bold” as she can when it comes to her career choices as she celebrates the release of four new projects at the Cannes Film Festival.

“I'm at that stage in my life where I still try to act as if I'm 21 and starting my career,” she said at Monday’s press launch for The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

“At this stage of my life, I'm just trying to stay very bold and open and try things and support film-makers I believe in.”

As well as Yorgos Lanthimos’ follow-up to The Lobster, Kidman also stars in Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled, John Cameron Mitchell’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties and the new series of Top of the Lake, all of which are debuting at the festival

“That's a confluence of events - that's not something I was aware would be happening,” she said.

Speaking about her penchant for interesting projects, Kidman said that she was keen to support ‘unique’ filmmaking rather than big blockbusters these days.

“In terms of pushing the boundaries, I want to support people who are trying different things or who have a very, very unique filmmaking style or who are first-time filmmakers who can’t get things made,” she said.

“I have worked a lot. I don’t have to work. I work because it is still my passion. It is still the way in which I express myself. To have the opportunity to get to go to Cincinnati, and to work on this—to me that’s an honour, and I still consider that and stay in that place of being humbled.”

Kidman walked the red carpet alongside co-star Elle Fanning at the premiere of How to Talk to Girls at Parties.
