Everyone knows that there's no better feeling (other than scoffing cheese) than hearing the reverberating clapping sound of landing a good high five.

Ain't that right, Barney?!

But when not executed correctly, high fives can go from victory incarnated as a human gesture to epic FAIL within seconds.

Anyway, a very unfortunate Nicole Richie just got high-fived in the FACE during an interview with Talk Stoop after the reporter missed her hand completely.

Interviewer Cat Greenleaf sent Nicole Richie's sunglasses flying, after she accidentally slapped the reality star in the face during a high-five attempt to honour the news that formerly drought-stricken California was going to be hit with rain.

And Nicole had a great one-liner after Cat's mishap – all within the first minute of their chat.

It came after the journalist asked Nicole what her favourite news of the week was, and the 35-year-old TV personality – promoting her new NBC sitcom Great News – said: "I live in LA and I heard it's going to rain three times this week..."

But the celebratory high-five didn't go to plan...

We challenge you not to watch this on repeat for the rest of the day.
